Selenoptyx inversiluna (Pilsbry, 1908) (Pulmonata: Clausiliidae) from Kumejima Island, Okinawa, southern Japan

Hiroshi FUKUDA and Yuki TATARA

Abstract Selenoptyx inversiluna (Pilsbry, 1908), a rare clausiliid land snail, was rediscovered from Kumejima Island (type locality of the species), Okinawa, Japan. The species was found alive in rather dry habitat. The reproductive system of specimens from Kumejima Island is illustrated for the first time. The shell and reproductive system are almost identical with individuals which were previously reported from neighboring Tokashikijima Island, while intraspecific variation is found. The penial appendage of specimens from Kumejima Island is distinct as well as those from Tokashikijima Island, but the length is much shorter than that of a congener S. noviluna (Pilsbry, 1908) even if individual is fully matured.

Cecina manchurica A. Adams, 1861 (Caenogastropoda: Pomatiopsidae) from Miyagi Prefecture, northern Honshu, Japan

Takao SUZUKI, Hiroyoshi YAMASHITA, Toyohiko MIYAGI and Yuki TATARA

Abstract Four new populations of the endangered gastropod Cecina manchurica A. Adams, 1861 were discovered from Miyagi Prefecture. The species is new to the Prefecture. Among these four localities, the Urato Islands in Shiogama-shi are the southern distribution limit on the Pacific coast of Japan. As the habitats of this species in supratidal zone with deposits of beach drifts including dead Zostera and algae have often been lost by landfill or coast protection, they should be principally conserved.

Galeommella utinomii Habe, 1958 (Bivalvia: Veneroida: Galeommatidae) from the Obitsu River Estuary, inner part of Tokyo Bay, central Honshu, Japan

Yuki TATARA and Hiroshi FUKUDA

Abstract Specimens of a rare galeommatid Galeommella utinomii Habe, 1958 were found in Professor Toshio Furota's collection. They were collected from subtidal off the Banzu Tidal-flat at the Obitsu River Estuary, Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture, in 1982. This is the only reliable record of the species from Tokyo Bay and subtidal zone at present. The validity of G. utinomii (with special mention to Galeomnia [sic; = Galeomma] japonica A. Adams, 1862) and the generic relationships of Galeommella are also discussed.

Key words: Galeommatoidea, Galeomma japonica, rare species, inner bay, subtidal, Chiba Prefecture, Banzu Tidal-flat
